PERSONNEL ARCHIVES

Information about deceased persons is covered under the Official Information Act 1982. Personnel Archives Officers handle all enquiries regarding deceased personnel. If the Service Personal File has no notification of death, then a copy of a death certificate,
death notice or funeral sheet is required before information can be released from the service personal file. In accordance with guidelines set by Government the NZDF may charge for the provision of information to defray costs.

Generally the following will apply

                    1 File No Charge.
                    2 Files and up to a total of 25 pages of Copy No Charge.
                    2 Files with a total of more than 25 pages of copy Charge $28 in Total.
                    3 Files or more or repeated requests Charge as above plus $28 each for third and additional files.

Personnel Enquiries

Information about living persons is covered by the Privacy Act 1993. Personnel Enquiries Officers handle all enquiries regarding living personnel. Information can normally only be given to the person named on the file. Information is provided free of charge. A 3rd party can be given written permission to access information on a personal file but there may be a charge.

Medals Enquiries

Staff Officer Medals handles all queries regarding medal entitlement and issue of replacement ribbons and medals. Replacement medals are issued only during the lifetime of the person to whom the medals were originally awarded. Where medals were not issued to service personnel during their lifetime, the next-of-kin may claim the medals. Applications must be in writing showing close family connection.
